Smoky BBQ Bacon Burger Recipe
Ingredients:
For the Burger Patties:
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef (80% lean, 20% fat)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
For the Toppings:
- 4 slices of crispy bacon
- 4 slices of cheddar or smoked gouda cheese
- 4 hamburger buns
- 1/2 cup BBQ sauce (use your favorite brand)
- Caramelized onions
- Lettuce leaves
- Tomato slices
- Pickles (optional)
Instructions:
Prepare the Patties:
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, smoked paprika, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
- Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into a patty, about ¾ inch thick.
Cook the Bacon:
- In a skillet, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels. Set aside.
Cook the Patties:
- Preheat your grill, grill pan, or skillet over medium-high heat.
- Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium doneness. Adjust the time as needed for your desired level of doneness.
- During the last minute of cooking, add a slice of cheese to each patty and cover with a lid to melt.
Toast the Buns:
- Lightly butter the inside of each bun.
- Toast the buns on the grill or in a skillet until golden brown.
Caramelize the Onions:
- In the same skillet used for the bacon, cook the onions over medium heat until golden and caramelized, about 10 minutes.
Assemble the Burgers:
- Spread BBQ sauce on the bottom bun.
- Add a lettuce leaf, then place the burger patty with melted cheese.
- Top with crispy bacon, caramelized onions, tomato slices, and pickles if desired.
- Finish with more BBQ sauce on the top bun.
Serve:
- Serve the Smoky BBQ Bacon Burgers hot with a side of coleslaw, sweet potato fries, or onion rings.
