Smoky BBQ Bacon Burger Recipe

Ingredients:

  • For the Burger Patties:

    • 1 lb (450g) ground beef (80% lean, 20% fat)
    • Salt and pepper to taste
    • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
    • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
    • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce


  • For the Toppings:

    • 4 slices of crispy bacon
    • 4 slices of cheddar or smoked gouda cheese
    • 4 hamburger buns
    • 1/2 cup BBQ sauce (use your favorite brand)
    • Caramelized onions
    • Lettuce leaves
    • Tomato slices
    • Pickles (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Patties:

    • In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, smoked paprika, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
    • Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into a patty, about ¾ inch thick.
  2. Cook the Bacon:

    • In a skillet, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels. Set aside.
  3. Cook the Patties:

    • Preheat your grill, grill pan, or skillet over medium-high heat.
    • Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium doneness. Adjust the time as needed for your desired level of doneness.
    • During the last minute of cooking, add a slice of cheese to each patty and cover with a lid to melt.


  4. Toast the Buns:

    • Lightly butter the inside of each bun.
    • Toast the buns on the grill or in a skillet until golden brown.
  5. Caramelize the Onions:

    • In the same skillet used for the bacon, cook the onions over medium heat until golden and caramelized, about 10 minutes.
  6. Assemble the Burgers:

    • Spread BBQ sauce on the bottom bun.
    • Add a lettuce leaf, then place the burger patty with melted cheese.
    • Top with crispy bacon, caramelized onions, tomato slices, and pickles if desired.
    • Finish with more BBQ sauce on the top bun.
  7. Serve:

    • Serve the Smoky BBQ Bacon Burgers hot with a side of coleslaw, sweet potato fries, or onion rings.
